The Boss RC-20XL is a very simple to use loop pedal with some really cool effects and settings. Using just your
foot, you are able to alter the tap tempo, set up and record any length of loop you require and in addition the
ability to also play over it whilst in recording mode or not. It also has the excellent ability to record a second
loop overlaying your first effort and should this not be to your liking you can simply delete the latest loop
recording all using just your foot.
The Boss RC-20XL does not feature stereo outs which can sometimes be required and this is only currently
available within the RC-50 model at present but most musicians feel that the RC20XL provides most, if not all, of
the features they require from a strong loop pedal.
You maybe asking which looper is the better, the Boss RC-20xl or the comparable Digitech Jamman? I have
certainly had several discussions with band members around this very subject and whilst the Digtech Jamman Looper
appears at first glance of the specs to have the edge over the Boss guys I know have experienced the Jam Man
occasionally stuttering whilst playing a loop. I have heard that other owners have taken the Jamman back to
Digitech for repair, for precisely this defect and once returned it continues to suffer from the same loop
interruptions.
The JamMan is capable of recording up to 99 loops and real-time recording, and can hold up to 6.5 hours. It
takes input from guitars and microphones and has two footswitches, the first for recording and overdub and the
second for putting the breaks on the loop.
This is in comparison to the Boss RC-20XL that provides eleven memory tracks, in which you have got the option
of either storing one-shot phrases in addition to loop phrases. Even more useful if your are on stage performing,
you could change amongst the tracks with an optionally available FS 6 Dual Foot switch, or even a couple of FS5U
footswitches – just make sure you employ the momentary form of footswitches to enable it to function correctly.
The Undo-options element of the RC 20 XL can often be a valuable and offer music functionality for removing your
earlier phrase and instantaneously layering a fresh one. Immediately after you have dazzled your audience (!), now
its time to bring it to an end. The RC20XL provides 3 quit choices designed for this reason. Whenever you strike
the pedal, you may choose to instantly cease the playback, allow the phrase play right up until the finish, or even
fade it out.
